Catapult User Guide

Spectrum Reach’s Catapult User Guide

Catapult is Spectrum Reach's web-based tapeless delivery platform, designed to provide an easy-to-use process for sending digital media files to Spectrum Reach. 

Please follow these instructions carefully, to ensure your user account is set up properly, and to allow for reliable spot deliveries with each usage.

Catapult Site Information

You can access the Catapult site at http://catapult.spectrumreach.com

I.    Registration Process and Account Setup

Fill out the registration form on the Catapult site with the following information:

  • Your Name
  • Company
  • Address
  • Phone number for account user contact
  • Enter a username and password for your account

Once completed, you are ready to login and begin Using Catapult.

Primary Users may set up “Secondary Accounts” in the “My Account” area of Catapult. Secondary users have the ability to Upload and Download files from Catapult for the specific Client master account.

II. Spot File Naming

It is suggested that files be named with information provided in the following order:

Client-SpotTitle-Duration-DateRendered (for HD files, please include HD in the filename)

Please avoid using special characters, such as commas, ", $, %, &, *, #, @, (), + and ! Periods (.) should only be used as a separator for the file extension.

III. Uploading and Downloading Files

Uploading and Downloading spots to and from Catapult is restricted with each Client/User Account. 

To Upload Files - Once logged in Click on the “UPLOAD” tab, Click on “Select Files” and browse to where the files are stored on your computer or network. To select Multiple Files hold the CNTL and select up to 10 files. Multiple file uploads will be queued and uploaded one at a time.

To Download Files – Once logged in, Click on the “DOWNLOAD” tab, select the destination of the target file and click SAVE.

IV. Production Requirements

File types uploaded need to be one of the following formats:

  • MPEG-2
  • Quick Time MOV - We accept H.264 and DV (for SD only) Codecs

Other Important Requirements:

  • If you require Closed Captioning, it must be embedded in an MPEG-2 file.
  • All content must be produced within NTSC title safe borders
  • All files should be trimmed to exact spot length, DO NOT include color bars or slates
  • Video levels should be no higher than 100 IRE and Audio should be CALM Act compliant
  • Audio Mix needs to be a two channel L/R stereo mix, with voice/music/effects mixed to both L/R channels

High Definition:

1080i Files

  • 1920x1080 resolution
  • 16:9 aspect ratio (1.0 pixel aspect ratio)
  • Uncompressed (PCM) audio, 16-bit, 48 KHz

720p Files:

  • 1280x720 resolution
  • 16:9 aspect ratio  (1.0 pixel aspect ratio) 
  • Uncompressed (PCM) audio, 16-bit, 48 KHz

All HD Content must be encoded using the following bit rate parameters

Profile MPEG2 H.264
Bit Rate (Peak) 50Mbps 50Mbps
Bit Rate (Minimum) 35Mbps 20Mbps

All HD Content MUST be delivered with one of the following frame rates:

  • 29.97 fps interlaced
  • 29.97 fps progressive
  • 59.94 fps progressive

Standard Definition:

Quick Time MOV:

  • 720x480 resolution
  • Uncompressed (PCM) audio, 16-bit, 48 KHz sample rate
  • 4:3 aspect ratio (0.9 pixel aspect ratio)


  • 720x480 resolution
  • MPEG 1 Layer 2 Audio, 192 kb/s Stereo
  • 4:3 aspect ratio

All SD Content must be encoded using the following bit rate parameters

Profile MPEG2 H.264
Bit Rate (Peak) 35Mbps 35Mbps
Bit Rate (Minimum) 20Mbps 15Mbps

Longform / Video On Demand:

Preferred Longform Specs - MPEG-2:

    MPEG-2 Program Stream
    720x480 Resolution
    Interlaced Lower Field First
    Video Bit Rate: 3.0 Mbps (Constant)
    Aspect Ratio: 4:3 or 16:9
    Color space: 4:2:0
    Frame Rate: 29.97
    Standard: NTSC
    Profile/Level: Main Profile @ Main Level (MP@ML)
    Audio: MPEG audio, 48 KHz sample rate, stereo, 384 Kbps

    If the preferred longform specs cannot be met, use the specs for SD/HD files above.
